Michael Birley Thanksgiving Service

Over 400 OMs, Old Eastbournians and guests celebrated the life of Michael Birley (B1 1934-39, CR 1970-88) at a Thanksgiving Service held in Marlborough College Chapel on Tuesday 8th May 2012.

Former Masters, John Dancy, Roger Ellis, David Cope and Edward Gould also attended the Service as well as a lunch held for close family in the Common Room Dining Room. Roger Ellis delivered a moving Address which summed up the warmth, generosity and intelligence of Michael, former Head Master of Eastbourne College and former House Master of Preshute House, Marlborough.

Following the Service friends and family shared memories of Michael at a Reception in the Norwood Hall. A full obituary of Michael Birley will appear in The Marlburian Club Magazine in November 2012. The reception was followed by a small reunion of Preshutians for whom Michael Birley had been a much loved House Master (final picture in the slideshow).
